The pigeon racing in the house of Engels in Putte has a more than 70-year tradition. Flor Engels was Brieftaubenzüchter since 1947. Jos son (born 1939) was involved in the hobby of the Father from the beginning. His brother Jules (born 1940) came only a few years later for pigeon racing. But the study of pigeons was of course quickly became family hobby.

Until 1980, under the name of the Father “Flor Engels”traveled, but both brothers were always very much involved in all aspects of growing pigeon colony. It was hard work for all because the pigeon season ran parallel to the family's vegetable production.
From 1980 'Flor Engels and sons' under the name traveled and remained so until the death of his father in 2002. Since then it heist' Jos & Jules Engels.

Jos und Jules haben keinen Erfolgstrainer für ihre erfolgreiche Taubenkolonie. Und es sieht so aus als wären die Erfolge im Jahr 2017 genauso selbstverständlich gekommen wie immer, als bereits über eine Reduzierung des Bestandes nachgedacht wurde. Beide Männer, 77 und 78 Jahre alt, sind von morgens bis abends mit den Tauben beschäftigt. Das sind während der Saison viele Stunden. Das ist ja nicht nur die Versorgung der vielen Reiseschlähge sondern dazu gehört auch: Administration der Zuchttauben, der Resultate, der Anstammungen, Buchhaltung, Schlagbesuche von interessierten Kunden aus Nah und Fernr, Training der Reisetauben, einkorben der Reisetauben, wegbringen der Uhren u.s.w….
