At this point, I would like to wish all the readers of the newsletter a happy and above all healthy year 2016. That the world may be more peaceful and more tolerant in 2016.
Keep pigeons healthy
A few weeks ago, the book is “Keep pigeons healthy” appeared in the Dutch language. Originally it was planned to make the book at the same time also in several other languages. However it proved difficult to make the translations at the same time. Are already working on some translations, others were not yet begun. But it is our firm intention to provide the book for foreign readers of the newsletter.
The most common diseases and their treatments are described in the book. Also the development as it is called "Pestkop" in the vernacular bacteria and their now well-known effects of are explained in the book. Further investigation to run yet. The exact DNA analysis of this bacterium was not yet sufficiently known at time of print of the book. It does seem however that the same strain was present for all submitted specimens for the tests. This is of course still not representative. Further research is needed to draw safe conclusions.
But it's already typical, always of the same tree as the pigeons to be found. Since any further investigation costs 114,50 EUR per sample, it is not just a study, you can perform even just a hundredfold. However, should these studies be carried out more frequently to get security in the presumption, whether a single strain of this bacterium is crucial for the pigeons. As well as only one type of salmonella bacteria, Salmonella typhimurium var. Copenhagen, is responsible for the problems of Paratyfus for deaf enclose.
In short, there is still a lot of work before we may or may not include clear conclusions about the presence of "Pestkop" bacteria. Fact is that, as soon as these bacteria are no longer present highly at the pigeons, the disappointing performances such as "Melt the snow in the Sun". And the Dove losses are reduced not only that, up to “normal” Conditions. We noticed this now several hundred times since 2013 among breeders, which had to fight with this problem. (2013 was the year when we came across this problem).
Rules of conduct
It is important for readers to know that we balance as a manufacturer of natural products on a thin rope.
We produce food supplements. You can not report about these products that they help well against a certain disease or particular suffering. Also the statement that a product supports the defense forces can be called very vaguely. If you write as the author of a font in a magazine, on how a particular herb against a disease effect and is in the same journal that a sales advertisement you risk a fine of up to €35,000.
It is not necessarily correct to name a disease in a newsletter also and to explain by what means this is to treat. The regulations prohibit this. These rules are not new, there for many years. This is completely unknown to many fans. So I can write a newsletter which we even (with good results) use products at our own pigeons, but I can not write, that a particular product for a disease such as the young pigeon disease is effective, unless this is scientifically. This seems a very healthy starting point to be at first glance. This is basically the same. But appearances are deceptive. The latter is very difficult for Dove products. Not only because it is difficult to provide such evidence. It is not possible to pick up the enormous costs associated with it back in through the marketing. Of course, the reason lies in the sharp decline in the number of breeders in Western Europe. Only a few (large) companies are willing to invest money and energy for this time. A development which is very unfortunate.
Therefore, there are so few registered special pigeon products on the market. Not only animal medicines that help against a certain disease, must be registered. Also herbal products who want to be more than a dietary supplement must be registered as veterinary medicinal products. It is for drugs can be very difficult and very expensive to get the registration, for herbal medicine, this is almost impossible. Herbal remedies contain generally vastly more components than drugs that contain often only a single substance. The total amount of the ingredients is often the right effectiveness. Such herbal products must then prove with all active ingredients that they act in the same way as a single drug. A very difficult and very costly task.
It should be clear to all, that especially the pharmaceutical industry with this development is satisfied. There is little or no herbal remedies on the market, which can be a good alternative to conventional medicines, so consumers are almost forced to use drugs regularly. It is therefore not surprising that the industry spends a lot of money for lobbying of Governments and all kinds of national parliaments, the European Parliament and the US Congress and the Senate to know their interests safeguarded. I recently read a publication describing that work for each Member in a European and American Parliament up to 60 lobbyists. It is not in the interest of the pharmaceutical industry alternative products with natural ingredients on the market and as a competitor to the own products.
The legislation does not stand still. To be prepared for further adjustments, we have already provided our products in December with an other garment and with new labels. We put some products in small packing units, to prevent too much of a product must be purchased. Experience has shown that many products still on the pigeon loft store. This is not always the ideal location to prevent mold growth. Prevention is also here better than cure. Cool and dark place all product, but only if they are not specifically required in the refrigerator.

It is fact that not all things are as they seem, because producers are pushing governments and authors with the "power of soft hand" in a certain direction. Often, no one has the right to do so.
