Robert Maass – Became Saxony champion with 32 young pigeons…

“It's not the quantity that brings success, but the good pigeons. Even with the young pigeons, you should be careful not to overcrowd the loft. It's better to concentrate on fewer pigeons and provide them with high-quality feed and by-products. Then success comes and the joy of the pigeons remains.” Robert Maaß from the RV Löbau-Oberlausitz runs racing pigeons according to this motto. Another strong season in 2023 proves that he is in no way wrong. Robert bred a total of 40 young from his 12 breeding pairs, which he sold for his own team. With 32 of this small team he took part in the first prize flight of the young animal trip, 28 young are still in the young animal loft after the season. The 12 young animals were by no means lost during training or the prize flights. Robert also takes pigeons from the team during the trip. In this way he ensures that only pigeons that are absolutely fit and in top form enter the race. How else could you complete a flight with 31/31 prizes or become the Saxon champion of the young animal trip with such a small team?

Stars at Jung & Alt

Robert's stated goal is to have high quality with a low number of pigeons. Since he always approaches things professionally in our sport, it is not surprising that he breeds exceptional pigeons in almost every year. In addition to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th AS youngsters from Saxony, he also produces the 1st AS youngster from Saxony. Robert's “Verena” (DV 09024-23-412) flies 4/4 prizes with a whopping 386.41 AS points. “Verena” comes from the pair “Blue Strike” x “Ebbi”. This is a pairing in which original pigeons from P. Boeckx and F. Ebben were bred together.

Among the adults, the year-old super bird “Hunter” (DV 09024-22-2230) shone brightest among the stars.

Bred from the dream pair “Hattrick” (full brother “Olympic Cecile”) paired with “Lucky Saganne (Patrick Boeckx), the bird flew, among other things, 2nd / 1,611 pigeons, 9th / 2,384 pigeons, 15th / 1,057 pigeons, 19th / 877 Pigeons. With his 12/11 prizes he became the best yearling bird in the RV and 4th AS bird in Saxony with 839.48 As points.

Supply – quality at the highest level

Without discussing the supply plan in detail, Robert briefly presents his “favorites” from last season: “On the young animal trip, I increasingly used the Hexenbier product. I liked that very much. On Monday and Tuesday I moistened the food with witch's beer and dried it with K+K Protein 3000. The pigeons have come into incredible shape, which was reflected in the pink breast flesh, silky-soft feathers and increased joy in flying. My breeding pigeons receive UsneGano in combination with the mineral drink almost every day. Since then I have had no problems with coccidia and have been able to completely avoid medication in the breeding loft. In addition, the young pigeons are developing fantastically and show a solid stool pattern.” Incidentally, the Elite Racing is fed 100% by Mifuma. As the developer of this high-quality travel mix, Robert naturally stands by “his” food.

2nd place Action-Human-Flights overall ranking

After various top placings in the annual ranking of Aktion-Mensch-Flights in recent years, it was almost enough to take first place at the national level again this year. With a barely noticeable gap of 0.15 points, our likeable Saxon came second in this interesting championship.

How do you pre-name your pairs for this championship?

“I watch my pigeons all year round. With some pigeons it is noticeable that even after training at the house they fly straight to the incoming flight and usually jump in quickly. If these pigeons are also fast in the races, then I will nominate them for this championship.”

Through good public relations for a positive view of our hobby

“Each of us does public relations work, even on the smallest scale. It starts in the family, continues through the presentation of racing pigeon racing among private individuals, right up to the way members in the clubs treat each other. If we can achieve a positive representation of the racing pigeon sport here, then a lot has already been achieved. I run a podcast on YouTube called “Konstatiert-Pigeon News” together with the two sports friends Simon Ullrich and Stefan Wagner.” The sports friends publish a new episode of their podcast about once a month and chat about the situation on theirs in a relaxed atmosphere punches and give insights into their punches. Every now and then a pigeon is introduced in more detail. An entertaining entertainment program that you can definitely watch.
